Latest research has shown excellent success with low rates of recurrence of sarcoids using laser surgery. Surgery using laser both cuts and vaporises the tissue conferring several advantages to standard surgical excision, including reduced post-operative formation of granulation tissue, pain and swelling.

Furthermore, the heat produced from the laser creates an area of necrosis around the lesion, which reduces the opportunity for cells to be spread to the surrounding normal tissue. The 1470 wavelength is optimum for water absorption, therefore a combination wavelength has been proven to improve efficiency when cutting by optimising water and blood absorption across the 1470nm and 980nm wavelengths respectively.
